SF Beer Week 2010: Pliny the Younger Release at Russian River Brewing
A new entry to the chalkboard.
Russian River Brewing Company has gotten San Francisco Beer Week off to a fast start. While past years of the Pliny the Younger release have tended towards quiet, nonchalant affairs, this annual event seems to have grown in a similar fashion to events like 3 Floyds’s Dark Lord Day and Lost Abbey releases.
The good news?: everybody waiting in line for the opening at 11AM got in almost immediately, and their Triple IPA (10oz pours: $4.50) is going to be available for a good while, at least for the next few days. I’ve heard estimates of anywhere from over the weekend to a week+, as this was a significantly large batch of Pliny the Younger. Hop Press representatives were there early (myself, Mario, and Joe Tucker), as were plenty of new and familiar faces: Rick Sellers, Peter Hoey, Sean Paxton, Stephen Beaumont, Jay Brooks, Daniel Del Grande, and plenty of others wishing to welcome in SF Beer Week with some hops.

For folks planning to head up later today, expect a decent wait at the door, and growler fills were backed up quite a lot earlier this afternoon. But there’s plenty of room once you’re inside, the wait staff has been hard at work since this morning, and the crowd is simply happy that this “week” has finally arrived.
